Six Charged In Heavy Equipment Thefts

A London man is among six people charged in a string of heavy equipment thefts in southwestern Ontario.

The OPP and officers from the St. Thomas and Strathroy-Caradoc police departments launched a multi-jurisdictional investigation in January after several pieces of heavy equipment were stolen. Through the investigation, police found more than $200,000 worth of stolen property, including two skid steers, a mini excavator, and a side-by-side all-terrain vehicle.

Six people have been arrested in connection with the case. They include an a 66-year-old from London, a 49-year-old from St. Thomas, a 41-year-old from Middlesex Centre, a 49-year-old from Wardsville, and a 51-year-old and 26-year-old from West Lorne.

The six are charged with a combined 33 offences including theft over $5,000, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of property obtained by crime, and fraud over $5,000.

Police hope the arrests will help lead officers to more stolen equipment throughout the region.
