Court Appearance For Alleged Killer Nurse

A former nurse accused of killing eight residents of long-term care facilities in Woodstock and London will see her case return to court next month.

Elizabeth Wettlaufer appeared in a Woodstock court via video link on Friday. Her case was put over to June 1.

Wettlaufer was arrested on October 25 and charged with eight counts of first degree murder in the deaths of seven residents of Caressant Care in Woodstock and one resident of Meadow Park nursing home in London. The eight residents ranged in age from 75-96 and died between 2007-2014.

Additional charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault were laid against Wettlaufer on January 13. Those charges relate to residents of long-term care homes in Woodstock and Paris, as well as a private home in Oxford County.

On April 7, Wettlaufer waived her right to a preliminary hearing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
