Man And Pregnant Woman Arrested After Officer Assaulted

Two people have been charged, including a 19-year-old pregnant woman, after a police officer was assaulted in St. Thomas.

The St. Thomas Police Service says on Wednesday around 9pm, police were called after an alcohol-fueled argument between the pregnant woman and her partner resulted in the woman allegedly striking the man in the face several times.  Police have not disclosed where in the city the assault took place.

Witnesses were able to stop the fight before police arrived, but when officers attempted to arrest the pregnant woman, another intoxicated man fought with them.

As a result, the 19-year-old St. Thomas woman has been charged assault, and a 24-year old man from St. Thomas is charged with assaulting police, resisting arrest and being intoxicated in a public place.  Both have been released with a future court date.
