Police Officers, Hospital Staff Assaulted

A 20-year-old Brantford woman is facing assault charges after an incident involving police and hospital staff in St. Thomas.

Officers were called to a home on Hamilton St. just before 6am on Tuesday after a woman repeatedly tried to force her way inside. The woman was arrested for being drunk in public and was taken to the police department's holding cells.

The woman was later injured in the holding cell, when police say she began smashing her head against the cell door. She was taken to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital for treatment. While there the woman allegedly kicked, punched, and tried to bite officers, nurses, and security officers.

Police claim the woman also spat in the face of an officer.
