Severe Weather Hits London Area

What started out as a sunny Saturday turned much different in the afternoon as severe thunderstorms swept into the London area, prompting Environment Canada to issue a tornado warning.

The weather agency issued the warning before 2pm as strong thunderstorm cells were determined by forecasters to be capable of producing twisters.

Environment Canada said there was rotation spotted in a storm cell that was passing over the Dorchester area. As that storm moved east, a tornado warning was issued for Oxford County. However, the storm quickly lost its strength and the warning was lifted.

To the north of London, what appeared to a brief touchdown of a tornado was filmed by Nick Donaldson.

Severe thunderstorm watches remained in effect in London and Middlesex County until just after 9:30pm.
