Child Injured After Falling From Escalator

A 4-year-old girl has been rushed to hospital after falling off an escalator at a London mall.

The London Police Service said officers responded on Friday around 5pm, after the child fell at the Citi Plaza, located at 355 Wellington St.

Witnesses told the the London Free Press that the girl was playing around the escalator with other children at the time of the accident.  The moving railing pulled the girl up to the top as she hung onto the outside of the escalator, and she ran into a barrier which forced her to fall.

The child reportedly fell from the second floor of the mall, through an open space and landed on the bottom level of a three-level underground parking area.

The girl was taken to hospital with what was originally described as life threatening injuries.  However, police now say the child is currently in stable condition and her injuries are non-life threatening.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
