Police Warn Of Hydro Scam

Londoners who get a call about owing money to London Hydro are being warned it could be a scam.

London police say someone posing as one of the utility's employees recently called a city restaurant and claimed the establishment owed money and if it wasn't paid, their hydro would be cut.

London Hydro has confirmed the call was not made by any of its workers.

No money changed hands as a result of the call, but police are now reminding the public to always verify, through external sources, whether the person on the other end of an unsolicited call is legitimate.

"London Hydro and other companies would not make first point of contact calls of this nature," said a police news release issued Wednesday.

Police encourage anyone who believes they have been the victim of a fraud to contact them.
