Girl Hit, Killed By SUV

Provincial police say a 6-year-old Norwich Township girl has died after being hit by a vehicle southeast of Aylmer.

The girl was running next to an SUV when she was hit by the vehicle on private property in Bayham around 4:30pm on Monday. The child was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Elgin OPP say the girl has been identified as Melissa Klassen of Norwich Township. Her family is asking for privacy during this extremely difficult time.

"This is a tragic incident and our hearts go out to those involved. This must serve as a reminder to all of the dangers associated to, and the caution required around moving vehicles," said Acting Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Butler.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
