Motorcycle Rider Seriously Injured

St. Thomas Police are investigating a motorcycle crash that sent a rider to hospital.

Police say the incident happened around 7:30pm Friday. An 18-year-old man was riding his motorcycle northbound on Balaclava St between Nolan and Edward Sts and had passed several vehicles. One of the vehicles made a left turn into a driveway before the rider passed it. The motorcycle struck the rear, driver's side door of the vehicle.

The rider was taken by ambulance to Victoria Hospital in London. He is currently in intensive care with very serious injuries. The rider's name is not being released.

The occupants of the other vehicle were not hurt.

St. Thomas Police had called in its accident reconstruction unit to help with the investigation. Balaclava St was closed for some time in that area but has long since been reopened.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Anyone with information who has not yet spoken with police is asked to call St. Thomas Police at (519) 631-1224.
