A group protesting the manufacturing of furs made its feelings known Sunday.
About two dozen protestors gathered outside a fur boutique in south London for a March to End Fur Farming. The purpose of the march was to call attention to animal rights in Ontario and call on the provincial government to pass legislation banning the practice.
According to the group's website, the group's mission is to "use a combination of direct action, protest, lobbying, educational events, and online actions to disrupt the fur farming industry and its enablers in provincial parliament until a ban is implemented."
Amanda Joyce was among the protestors on Wortley Sunday. She says their only objective is to give a voice to animals who cannot speak for themselves.
"They have no say or anything so we want to have a big heart and beat it for them," says Joyce. "And show them there is a different, healthier lifestyle out there."
Joyce says they were not at the London location to place blame or harass any store staff, pointing out that placing blame would not bring a solution to the problem.
"We're not trying to point fingers or anything," says Joyce. "The system is the main thing that's destroying all of us, because we're all pointing fingers at all of us."
Joyce says the march was to put the fur boutique on notice and she says she is confident that once it's shut down, others will follow.
The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs oversees the fur farming industry in the province. The ministry's website provides multiple links and resources governing the practice.
