School Bus Driver Charged In Crash

Charges have been laid against a St. Thomas school bus driver after a crash that sent one person to hospital.

St. Thomas police say the bus collided with a car at the intersection of Fairview St. and Elm St. around 8:45am on Monday. The bus was trying to make a left hand turn from Elm St. onto Fairview St. when it was hit by an oncoming car, according to police.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

There were no children on the bus at the time of the crash.

A 41-year-old woman has been charged with a left turn violation.

This is the second time in less than a week a St. Thomas school bus driver has been charged. A 61-year-old male bus driver was charged with careless driving after a crash in the area of Isabel St. and Victoria St. on Thursday. Police say the driver lost control of the bus, hitting a hydro pole and a parked vehicle.

Half a dozen students were on the bus at the time, but none were hurt.
