Police Dismantle Tent City

Police in St. Thomas have shut down a tent city set up by half a dozen homeless people.

The small, make-shift camp was set up on the Canadian National Railway property west of Flora St. Police say when officers arrived on the property on Tuesday they found six homeless people living in "total squalor."

"It was obvious the residents had been living in poverty and struggling with addiction for several weeks on the site," police said in a statement.

Those living on the site were connected to social services for help to secure proper housing.

The city and CN police are working to clear the items left at the site.
