After four weeks on the pickets lines, workers at Ingersoll's CAMI plant may be heading back to work after a tentative agreement was reached between the employees union and General Motors.
It was announced Friday evening that the tentative agreement had been achieved, but details of the new contract won't be released until employees ratify the deal.
The vote to accept or reject the deal will be held at a later date, which will be announced Saturday morning. Workers will remain on strike and will continue to picket until the tentative agreement has been ratified.
The 2,800 members CAMI employees, represented by Unifor Local 88, walked off the job on September 17 in what is widely considered a fight for job security. The union has been pushing GM for a written commitment that CAMI will be the lead producer of the Chevrolet Equinox crossover utility vehicle.
Earlier this year, GM shifted production of the Terrain sport utility vehicle to Mexico, costing hundreds of positions at CAMI.
This was the first time in over two decades there has been a strike at CAMI.
