Search For Gas Leads To Gun Charges

A London man who apparently ran out of gas on Hwy. 401 is facing charges after police allege he had a loaded gun and cocaine.

Middlesex OPP say there were called around 10am last Wednesday about a man walking along the centre median of the highway near Dochester Rd. When an officer arrived, there was no sign of the man but there was an abandoned vehicle at the side of the road.

The officer than saw a man with a gasoline container walking toward the vehicle, crossing six lanes of traffic. Police say the officer then seized a loaded handgun and a small amount of cocaine.

A 24-year-old man is now charged with possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, breach of firearms regulations, failing to comply with a recognizance, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number, and possession of cocaine.
