Pair Facing 44 Gun, Drug Charges

A chance encounter with police has left a London man and woman charged with 44 gun and drug offences.

London police spotted a vehicle being driven by a man wanted on outstanding warrants in the area of Vancouver St. and Wavell around 5:30pm on Sunday. The vehicle sped away from police, who opted not to give chase, after turning on their emergency lights in an attempt to stop it.

Additional officers were called to the area and ten minutes later the vehicle was stopped on Dundas St. E. Police seized two semi-automatic firearms, three loaded magazines, 30 rounds of ammunition, and an undisclosed quantity of powerful painkiller drugs hydromorphone and dilaudid.

A 31-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were arrested without incident. They are now charged with multiple weapon offences. The man is additionally charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight while pursued by peace officer, and possession of a Schedule I substance.

The pair were scheduled to appear in court to answer to the charges on Monday.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
