SIU Investigates After Man Was Struck By Car In Strathroy

The province's police watch dog is investigating after a man was hit by a car following a visit to the Ontario Provincial Police's Strathroy Detachment.

Police say on Saturday at around 11pm, a man went to Strathroy's OPP detachment, located on Centre Rd. in the Township of Adelaide Metcalfe. According to police, the man had a brief interaction with an officer while at the detachment.

Police say after the man left the detachment, he was struck by a car on Centre Rd.

He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The OPP has notified the province's Special Investigation Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate.

The SIU is an arms-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
