SIU Drops Tillsonburg Probe

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has determined that a man who was injured while in Oxford OPP custody did it to himself.

SIU Director Tony Loparco has terminated the investigation into the incident, which happened in late October. According to the SIU, around 3am on October 28, OPP were officers were called to a single-vehicle crash in the intersection of Broadway and Lisgar Ave. in Tillsonburg. The driver was arrested and taken to the detachment, where he was put in a cell.

Around 8:30am, he punched the wall with his left hand, causing a serious injury.

“The man’s injury – by his own admission and confirmed by cell video – was self-inflicted," says Loparco. "Accordingly, I have terminated the investigation.”
