More Jobs, But No Change In Jobless Rate

Almost 4,000 new jobs were created in the London area in November, but there was no change in the unemployment rate.

According to Statistics Canada, the London-St. Thomas jobless rate remained at 6.3% last month. The 3,900 new jobs were offset by an increase of 4,200 people in the local labour force.

While the labour participation rate saw an increase to 59.9% from October's 59%, it remains among the lowest in Canada.

Nationally, the economy created 79,500 net new jobs which resulted in a drop in the unemployment rate to 5.9% from 6.3% in October. Ontario saw the highest job growth, with 43,500 new jobs in the province. The Ontario jobless rate now sits at 5.5%, the lowest it has been since the summer of 2000.
