Oxford Township Man Killed In Snowmobile Crash

Oxford County OPP say a man has died in a snowmobile accident.

On Sunday at around 8pm, members of the Oxford County EMS, Otterville Fire Department, and Oxford County OPP responded to a snowmobile collision. Police say the collision occurred in a wooded area along Baseline Rd., east of Tillsonburg.

According to police, 51-year-old Todd Smith of South West Oxford Township was pronounced dead at the scene.

Baseline Rd. between New Rd. and Wendy's Rd. remains closed until police finish investigating.

As the frigid weather continues, the Oxford County OPP are reminding all riders to plan ahead whenever operating a snowmobile. Safety planning, requirements and riding information can be found at the Ministry of Transportation and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
