Dozens Of Charges Laid During Festive RIDE Program

London police say nearly 40 drunk driving related charges were laid through their Festive RIDE program in November and December.

During the two month period, police stopped 7,261 vehicles at ten random spots throughout the city. Officers administered roadside tests to 27 people, which resulted in 39 charges being laid.

In 2006, more than 11,000 vehicles were stopped during 15 RIDE programs with 50 roadside tests being administered. As a result of that more than 50 impaired driving charges laid.

Police intend to hold another five RIDE programs over the next two months.

MADD Canada provides police with special funding that makes the Festive RIDE program possible.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
