Hwy. 402 Reopened After Whiteouts, Snow Squalls Forced Closure

Hwy. 402 re-opened Sunday after being closed for several days.

The highway between Hwy. 401 in London and Nauvoo Rd. in Lambton County was re-opened around 9:30am on Sunday.

The stretch of the highway was closed since mid-afternoon Thursday following multiple crashes in whiteout conditions.

According to police, many motorists were left stranded on back roads, which led to a Strathroy arena being transformed into an emergency shelter.

Police also pleaded with drivers to obey highway closure signs after drivers were caught ignoring the alerts and entering the highway.

While the highway is now open, police remind the public to still drive cautiously due to icy conditions. Ramps are especially prone to slippery conditions.
