Man Killed In Tree Cutting Mishap

A 55-year-old Norfolk man is dead after a tree he was cutting down fell on top of him in a wooded area south of Aylmer.

Elgin OPP, along with Malahide firefighters and paramedics, were called to a woodlot off Pede Rd., south of Nova Scotia Line in the Township of Malahide around 10:07am Wednesday.

Investigators have determined three employees of an unnamed tree cutting service were hired by the land owner to remove some trees. One man was in the process of cutting down one of the trees when it prematurely fell and landed on him.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is not be released until his family are notified.

The Ministry of Labour is investigating the incident.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
