SIU Probing Stratford Crash

The province's police watchdog has been called in after a 21-year-old woman was seriously injured during a police chase in Stratford.

According to preliminary information from the Special Investigations Unit, Stratford police tried to stop a vehicle at Taylor St. and Norfolk St. around 3am on Wednesday. The vehicle did not stop for officers and ended up crashing into a tree moments later.

The driver of the vehicle ran from the scene, while three passengers were taken to hospital. A 21-year-old woman, who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, suffered serious injuries in the crash. The extent of the other two passengers injuries has not been released.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators are handling the SIU investigation.

Anyone who witnessed of the incident is asked to call the SIU at 1-800-787-8529. Video evidence can also be uploaded to the SIU website.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
