Tillsonburg Fundraiser On the Level

What was originally thought to be a phone scam in Tillsonburg has turned out to be a legitimate fundraiser.

Oxford OPP warned the public Monday about someone calling around for donations toward the Tillsonburg Fire Safety Day after receiving a call from a concerned citizen. Someone had contacted the citizen by phone, asking for a monetary donation in support of the event.

While the Town of Tillsonburg Fire Service advised police they were not collecting funds for anything, officers later track down the organizers of the event who confirmed it is legitimate. They told police they have been calling businesses looking for a corporate sponsor for next month's event.

Tillsonburg Fire Safety Day is an event for young children 5 years old and younger.

The local fire department has now been made aware of the event and are reviewing whether they will also participate.
