London Man Charged In Fatal Hit-And-Run

Nearly two months after an elderly cyclist was killed in a hit-and-run in east London, police have made an arrest.

A tip from the public led London police to the suspect vehicle on Monday. A 38-year-old London man was arrested in connection with the January 2 hit and run that claimed the life of Tae-Khun “Thomas” Ha. James Sutherland is charged with leaving a collision scene causing death.

Ha was cycling west on Dundas St. when he was hit by a vehicle that then took off around 5:45pm on January 2. The 85-year-old man died from his injuries five days later.

In the weeks that followed police twice issued pleas to the public for help finding the suspect vehicle, a 2011 to 2016 white Dodge Journey with damage to the passenger side and headlight area.

Sutherland is scheduled to appear in London court on Tuesday.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
