OPP Mourn Death Of Police Dog

A four-legged, seven-year veteran of the OPP is being remembered as a great friend and partner.

Diesel, an 8-year-old German Sheppard, died at home from unforeseeable medical issues on Sunday, according to Middlesex OPP.

The police service dog joined the OPP K-9 unit in northern Ontario in May 2011. He transferred to southwestern Ontario with his handler, Constable Chris Halverson, in May 2016.

"Diesel was a great partner, friend, and representative of the OPP. He was always a hit at public displays and school presentations," said Halverson. "Diesel located a lot of good and bad people, all this for a bowl of food and a scratch behind the ear."

Halverson was by Diesel's side when he passed away.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
