SIU Probing 401 Crash

The province's police watchdog has been called in after a man was hurt in a crash on Hwy. 401 in London.

Middlesex OPP were called to a section of the highway east of Wellington Rd. around 10pm on Wednesday after a grey SUV crashed into the median. According to police, the male driver of the vehicle took off from the scene. Officers arrested the man nearby a short time later. He was taken to hospital due to unspecified injuries police have said he suffered in the collision.

The Special Investigations Unit was notified about the incident and is investigating.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
