Five-Hour Standoff Ends Peacefully

A man is in custody after a five-hour standoff in east London came to a peaceful end Wednesday morning.

London police were called to the home at 383 Clarke Rd., near Dundas St. in relation to some "criminal code offences" around 5:10am.

"When officers arrived on scene the information was that a male had barricaded himself inside of the home," said Constable Sandasha Bough.

The man was alone inside the home and there was no indication he was in possession of any weapons, Bough added.

Nearly a dozen police cruisers were on scene throughout the morning. Witnesses said the home consists of multiple units but they knew little about the man inside.

Officers negotiated with the man in an attempt to get him to surrender peacefully before obtaining a warrant to enter the home.

The man was taken into custody without incident around 10:30am.

Police have said charges are pending.
