Man Hit, Killed By Train On Maitland

A man in his 40s is dead after being hit by a train near London's downtown on Monday.

Emergency crews were called to the rail crossing at Maitland St., south of York St. around 12:40pm, where a male pedestrian was hit by a westbound CN train.

The man was rushed to hospital but has since died from his injuries, according to London police.

Witnesses have said the rail crossing arms and lights were activated at the time of the collision.

Maitland St. between York St. and Bathurst St. was closed for two and a half hours while police investigated the incident. The area was reopened around 3:30pm.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
