Elgin County Beach Reopened After Police Situation

An Elgin County beach has reopened after police dealt with an upset male.

Ontario Provincial Police say officers went to the east beach in Port Burwell around 5:30pm Saturday.

When they arrived, they encountered a distraught man sitting in his vehicle. OPP Constable Adam Crewdson says people were cleared from the beach and access was closed at Robinson St. for public safety reasons.

Officers were then able to negotiate with the upset man, then take him into custody under the Mental Health Act. He has been treated in hospital.

The beach was reopened shortly after 7:30pm Saturday.
