London Man's Injuries Unrelated To Arrest: SIU

Ontario's police watchdog has dropped an investigation involving an injured 28-year-old London man, arrested during a break-in at a local business.

The Special Investigations Unit began investigating after the March 28 incident. London police had been called to a city business in relation to a break and enter. Officers arrived on scene and arrested a man as he was trying to escape through a window. The man was taken to hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

According to the SIU, the same man had been involved in a single vehicle crash on Hwy. 401 near Wellington Rd. shortly before the break-in. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier the same day and the driver had taken off before OPP arrived.

"The evidence clearly establishes that the man sustained his injuries in a single car accident prior to any contact with the police," said SIU Director Tony Loparco. "Accordingly I have terminated the investigation into this incident.”

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
