Suspect Arrested After East End Standoff

A 19-year-old London man has been arrested after a late night standoff on the city's east end.

Police say they responded to the scene in the area of Marconi Blvd. and Noel Ave. at around 11pm Tuesday night after receiving reports that a woman had been held against her will and threatened with a weapon. She managed to escape and the man barricaded himself inside the home.

Officers say members of their Emergency Response Unit, the K9 unit, and police negotiators were all called in to help with the situation.

Police say they also used "distraction devices" to help them take the suspect into custody.

Officers were able to make an arrest at around 7am Wednesday, taking a 19-year-old man into custody. He is charged with:

  • Failing to comply with recognizance (five counts)
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Mischief under $5,000
  • Break enter & commit assault
  • Forcible confinement
Police say several replica firearms were seized.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
