Driver Identified In Deadly Simcoe Crash

Ontario Provincial Police have identified the victim of a Friday bus crash.

Constable Ed Sanchuk says Hugh Elliott, 81, of Norfolk County was driving westbound on Windham Rd. 12 in Simcoe when his vehicle collided with a school bus, which was travelling southbound on Nixon Rd.

The crash occurred shortly after 5pm. As a result of the crash, both vehicles caught fire.

The driver of the vehicle was removed by an attending officer as well as an off-duty officer and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The bus driver and the 28 passengers aboard the school bus escaped via the rear emergency exit and were not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
