Arson Charges Laid After Apartment Fire

A 60-year-old London man is facing arson charges after a late afternoon fire at a north-end apartment building on Tuesday.

A London police officer, out on an unrelated call, noticed smoke coming from a ground floor unit at the building on Wharncliffe Rd. N around 5pm. The officer called firefighters who quickly arrived on scene and extinguished the flames.

No one was injured and damaged was estimated at approximately $100,000.

Investigators determined the blaze had been deliberately set and arrested the resident of the apartment.

Mark Sansom is charged with arson with disregard for human life and arson causing property damage. He was expected to appear in London court to answer to the charges Wednesday.
