Extreme heat to start new school year

It's going to be a hot start to the school year for students in the London area.

A heat warning is still in effect for the region. According to Environment Canada, temperatures are expected to surpass 30 C on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"A hot and very humid airmass remains in place. Maximum daytime temperatures near 31 degrees are generally expected through Wednesday with humidex values near or above 40 C," the weather agency said in a statement. "Overnight minimum temperatures will likely remain near 20 C providing little relief from the heat."

Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible each day which could prevent maximum daytime highs from reaching 31 C. However, humidex readings are still expected to be near 40 C.

Relief will come Wednesday night as a cold front moves through the region.
