Woman charged with neglecting a child

St. Thomas police say a woman has been charged after her child was found in deplorable conditions.

Police say they were called to an address Thursday evening on an undisclosed matter. When officers inspected the property, it was revealed that a child was living in the house in filthy conditions. The child was taken into protective custody by the police and was turned over to Family and Children's Services.

On Friday, a 21-year-old woman was arrested and charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life.

Police did not disclose the address where the mother and child were living. No additional information on this matter has been released.
