Woman found dead in Lake Erie

An investigation is underway after a woman was found dead in Norfolk County.

Ontario Provincial Police say they received a call around 9 a.m. Saturday from the shoreline of Lake Erie at Long Point. A passerby found an unresponsive woman in the waters of the lake off Hastings Drive. The woman was brought to shore but was soon declared deceased.

Norfolk County Paramedic Services assisted on the scene. The OPP's Forensic Identification Services is gathering information in order to identify the woman and a post-mortem is scheduled for Monday.

No additional information has been released.

Police are asking the public for help with this investigation. Anyone who may have seen anything unusual in the area on Friday night or early Saturday morning is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can be phoned into Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-TIPS (8477) or submitted online.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
