Father and son charged after cops assaulted

A father and son are facing several charges after a traffic stop in east London escalated from threats being made against police to two officers being attacked.

It began when a London police officer pulled over a vehicle on Major Street, just west of Hume Street around 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday. The traffic investigation led police to seize the vehicle's plates.

Threats were later made toward the officer who stopped the vehicle.

The next day, police went to a home on Hume St. to arrest a man in connection to the threats. The man allegedly resisted and repeatedly punched one of the officers in the face. Another man inside the home joined the fray and is alleged to have assaulted a second officer.

Both men were eventually arrested. The two police officers suffered minor injuries.

Gregory Vanalstine, 34, of London is charged with assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, threatening to impede performance of justice duties, and escaping lawful custody.

Jacob Vanalstine, 66, of London is charged with assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, and obstructing a peace officer.
