Police give all-clear after suspicious package threat

Police are investigating after a suspicious package threat forced the evacuation of a Walmart store in Simcoe.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on Tuesday around 6:20 p.m., officers were notified by employees that the store on Queensway West had been evacuated after someone called claiming there was a suspicious package inside.

"Officers have attended the store, we've searched the store with employees. No suspicious package was found [and] there's no threat to public safety," said Constable Ed Sanchuk in a video posted to Twitter.

The OPP gave the all-clear around 9 p.m. and employees have since been allowed back in the store.

No further details have been released at this time.
