Two charged in guns, drug bust

Two people are facing charges after police seized a large amount of cash, marijuana, and guns in a pair of raids on the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation.

Middlesex OPP announced on Tuesday that officers executed search warrants at two locations on Friday, September 21. They seized more than $160,000 in cash, more than 250 grams of marijuana, rifles, semiautomatic handguns, ammunition, and luxury watches.

Two suspects were arrested. Joshua George Burch, 33, and 32-year-old Abagil Burch are each charged with nine counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon, two counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, five counts of breach of firearms regulations, and producing marijuana.

Both were released from custody with promises to appear in court on November 12.

The OPP West and Central Region Tactics and Rescue Units, the canine unit, Lambton OPP, Huron OPP and OPP Aviation Services were also involved in the bust.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
