Diesel fuel spilled into Thames River

Crews had to clean up a small amount of diesel fuel that spilled into the Thames River, southeast of Blackfriars Bridge on Friday.

The fuel came from a garbage truck and entered the storm sewer system with a limited portion reaching the river. City officials said Friday afternoon that the spill has been contained and there are no health risks to the public.

A spill response contractor and the city's sewer operations team were called to the site to remove the diesel fuel.

The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks has been notified.
