Bystanders call 911 after smoke fills south London pizza joint

The damages are estimated at $100,000 after a late night fire at Jake's Pizza and Donair on Wharncliffe Road South in London.

Fire officials said the business was empty and had been closed for the day when they got the call just before 11 p.m. Sunday. Investigators said some members of the public who noticed smoke was present in and around the pizza business called 911 to report the incident.

By the time fire crews arrived at the scene, the building had already filled with smoke, which was also pouring out of the roof vents. Fire crews said they believe the fire started in a basement storage area that has some cardboard material supplies for the business.

A suspected cause has not yet been released and the investigation is ongoing.
