Dead kittens in shoebox not a case of animal cruelty

What seemed to be a possible act of animal cruelty now appears to be the opposite, following the discovery of two dead kittens in a shoebox in Charlotteville.

Norfolk County OPP said a resident found the shoebox containing the kittens on the road in front of their home on October 18. Police said it appeared the kittens, which were about two months old, had suffered head trauma.

However, on Saturday around 3:51 p.m., police were contacted by a resident who said they had found the dead kittens on the side of the roadway after they had been run over by a vehicle. While passing by, the resident stopped and removed the kittens from the road and placed both of them in a shoebox. The person told police they were unaware that the box was left in a school bus stop area.

Police said the investigation is now closed.
