Four cops assaulted during teen's arrest

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with assaulting four London police officers during an arrest that has gained the attention of the province's police watchdog.

Police were arresting the teen in the parking lot of a home on St. George Street around 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday after getting a call about a woman being threatened with a weapon.

Two officers were bitten, another kicked in the head, and a fourth was spat on. The suspect was also injured during the physical altercation that ensued during the arrest. He has since been treated and released from hospital into police custody.

The teen, who cannot be named because of his age, is charged with one count of assault with a weapon, one count of resisting arrest and four counts of assaulting a peace officer.

Police did not say what type of weapon was used or whether it has found at the scene.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now probing the incident due to the suspect's injuries.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
