Western University faculty strike looms

A strike deadline has been set for faculty at Western University.

The deadline has been set for November 9, however, the faculty association is hopeful that a deal can be reached before any job action is necessary. The association and the university have been locked in a contract dispute since June of this year, and faculty voted overwhelmingly in favour of giving the association a strike mandate.

"Talks with the employer are continuing, however. Our bargaining team heads back to the table this week, with eight negotiating sessions, five of them full-day sessions, scheduled between October 30 and November 8," UWOFA said in a statement issued this week. "We remain hopeful that a deal can be reached at the table before the deadline."

The association says plans are being put in place in the event of strike action. Strike headquarters have been rented and information has been sent to all full and part-time non-clinical faculty.

Pay and job security for part-time faculty are among the issues.
