Jobless rate drops again

The unemployment rate in the London-area fell again last month and is now under five per cent.

According to figures released Friday by Statistics Canada, the jobless rate in the London-St. Thomas area was 4.9 per cent in October, down from 5.2 in September. But the number of people working in the London census metropolitan area, which includes London, St. Thomas, Strathroy and other surrounding communities, fell by 300 to approximately 256,300.

The size of the labour force (the number of people working or looking for work) also fell by 1,100 after an increase of 600 in September.

Nationally, the unemployment rate fell to 5.8 per cent from 5.9 per cent in September as the economy added 11,200 net new jobs.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
