Mail service will grind to a halt Tuesday in St. Thomas.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers says its members in that city walked off the job just after midnight as its rotating strikes continue.
Postal workers in Sarnia, Delhi, Amherstburg, and Owen Sound are also hitting the picket line Tuesday.
“After more than ten months of negotiations, the intervention of two mediators and two weeks of rotating strikes, Canada Post’s true coulours are emerging,” said CUPW National President Mike Palecek in a statement. “The lofty rhetoric of wanting to work with us to reach fair agreements for our workers is turning out to be nothing more than smoke and mirrors. It needs to be said: Canada Post talks the talk, but doesn’t walk the walk.”
The rotating strikes arrived in London Monday, with postal workers holding a rally outside of city hall. The work stoppage is continuing for a second day in London.
Since the rotating strikes began on October 22, more than 100 communities across the country have been affected.
"Canada Post has been working hard to minimize the service impact to Canadians, but the union’s escalating strikes continue to cause backlogs in our national, integrated delivery network. As a result, customers could see delays of several days," Canada Post said in a statement.
