Deal reached between Western University and faculty association

Students at Western University can breathe a tentative sigh of relief -- a faculty strike has been averted.

According to a release from the university, the two sides reached an agreement just after 2 a.m. Friday morning -- about two hours after the midnight strike deadline passed, during which time, the University of Western Ontario Faculty Association (UWOFA) was in a legal strike position.

Having a tentative deal in place means no strike action will take place and all classes, labs, tutorials, and research will continue as usual.

The UWOFA is now recommending that its members approve the agreement. If they do, the deal will go to a vote at the university's Board of Governors meeting in late November.

The terms of the agreement will not be released to the public until the ratification votes take place.
