Police box in alleged drunk driver

An Aylmer man is facing impaired driving charges after St. Thomas police had to use several cruisers to box in a vehicle.

Officers initially tried to stop the Dodge Durango SUV near the downtown on Sunday, but the driver kept on going. When the SUV stopped for a red light at South Edgeware Road and Burwell Road shortly after, police used their cruisers to box the vehicle in.

A 54-year-old man is charged with impaired driving, possession of open alcohol in a vehicle, failing to stop, and refusing to provide a breath sample. He will appear in court in relation to the charges on December 4.

The SUV has been impounded.
