Driver facing charges after crash leaves one dead

One person is dead and another is in custody following a collision in Elgin County that police allege was alcohol related.

The Ontario Provincial Police reported that the single-vehicle crash involving a red pickup truck took place around 3 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of John Wise Line and Springwater Road. A passenger in the pickup was killed.

In a Periscope video from the scene, OPP Constable Adam Crewdson said the pickup was heading toward Aylmer on John Wise Line when it left the road and hit some trees. According to Crewdson, the driver is facing charges including impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

No names have been released.
